Bio
Stewart Keene was raised in the south suburbs of Chicago, the product of a tradesman and an educator. In lieu of art school, he opted for independent development after learning fundamental skills and gallery operations in high school. Upon graduating, he moved to Seattle to pursue a collegiate athletic career. A volatile health status and the city's battles with socioeconomic injustice emerged as his foremost influences in orchestrating the morbidity of our lives into something resembling beauty, while sharply reminding us of the collateral one can only attempt to hide from.
Pieces are constructed using varying combinations of acrylic, spray paint, ink, and/or flour; they're presented on primarily scavenged surfaces, often wood or cork board.
Keene is currently living and working in Seattle.
